There is another yelling, screaming, chanting protest outside. I'd say every other day I run into one? And there's probably one every single day in Paris. They call protests "manifestations"but of course, they;re so common that generally? You just say "manif'"

It could be over anything: the cost of oysters, the raising of the retirement age for truckers from 55 to 60, banning the importation of California grapes, or the Iraq war, raising the price of parking meters, who knows what. The French will protest ANYTHING, from the most serious to the most trivial, with banners and loudspeakers and marches and enraged chants and etc. As far as I can tell it hasn't done them any good since 1968, but I'm sure it makes them feel better. They certainly seem to enjoy it a great deal.

I just know this is going to make me late to class. I should probably leave an hour early.
